Study of low cost, scalable chemical approaches for the synthesis of new and high quality functional materials

CNRS, Laboratoire des Matériaux et du Génie Physique (LMGP) , 38016 Grenoble, France

Abstract :
The discovery of new materials and new functionalities is one of  the keys towards new and more efficient devices. In addition to that, it is also very important to design convenient synthesis routes allowing the fabrication of high quality materials in a cheap and scalable way. This is even more challenging when dealing with nanomaterials and  nanodevices. In my talk I will provide examples of how the use of soft chemistry methods has allowed the synthesis of new materials, such as silver-copper mixed oxides or silver-polypyrrole core-shell nanostructures. I will also describe a new chemical deposition method, namely Spatial Atomic Layer Deposition (SALD), which allows the synthesis of high quality materials at low temperature, with high deposition rates and in the open air. I'll finally provide some examples of the application of SALD to the fabrication of components for solar cells.
