LMGP Specific skills and expertise

Published: November 30, 2009

In relation with the 4 research groups, high-level technical skills have been developed over time in LMGP.

  • Synthesis of materials
Synthesis of materials remains a key activity of LMGP. Synthesis methods concerns several elaboration techniques based on chemical routes:
  • Electron Microscopy
Studies of materials at nano - or microscopic scale are essential in materials science.  The Electron Microscopy park at LMGP has received reinforcement during last years. These equipments concern the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), complemented with very powerful tools as Electron Backscattering Diffraction (EBSD), as well as Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Recently, a new Focused Ion Beam (FIB) equipment for sample preparation has joint the Electron Microscopy platform.

  • Raman spectroscopy
The laboratory has been developing for several years a significant expertise in the investigation of various
materials by Raman spectroscopy, a technique that is currently used by almost every research team of the laboratory.
  • X-ray diffraction/scattering
There is now in the lab a wealth of expertise taking advantage from laboratory equipments (crystallography, thin films and nano-objects studies, co-operated with the CMTC platform
  • Surface analysis in liquid and cell/materials interactions
In line with the expansion of the IMBM group, the expertise in the physico-chemical characterization of
material surfaces in solution has considerably increased during the last year.
  • Large scale facilities
Due to the local environment the use of netrons or synchrotron radiations is well developed at LMGP.
X-Ray diffraction and Anomalous diffraction
structural phase transition
electronic properties and magnetism of complex oxide thin films by resonant inelastic X-ray scattering
  • Modelling
Modelling is mainly used in hight emperature crystal growth of wide band-gap semiconductors, for electro-chemical evolution analysis as a function of DNA hybridization processes and for TIC materials
