Jens KREISEL

Directeur de Recherche au CNRS, JK is long-term detached from the CNRS to Luxembourg since sept. 2012 as

Head of the department Science and Analysis of Materials (SAM) at the Centre de Recherche Public Gabriel Lippmann
(Luxembourg)

Jens Kreisel was born in Dortmund, Germany. After studies in Germany and France, he obtained a MSc in Physics from the Karlsuhe Institute of Technology and a MSc in Materials science from Grenoble INP. In Grenoble he then obtained in 1999 his PhD on studies of crystallographic and magnetic structures in hexaferrites. From 1999 to 2000 he has been a post-doc at the University of Oxford,, then from 2000 to 2011 JK has been holding a permanent CNRS position in Grenoble. During the academic year 2011/2012 JK was on a sabbatical leave as Visiting Professor at Warwick University (GB), before becoming the Scientific Director of the Materials Science Department at the Centre de Recherche Public Gabriel Lippmann in Luxembourg.

JK's research interest lies in Materials Science, at the interface between Solid-State-Physics and -Chemistry, with a particular interest for Functional oxides, Smart Materials, Phase transitions and an internationally recognized expertise in optical spectroscopy.

The overall objective of JK's current research is to acquire a broad knowledge of coupling phenomena in multifunctional materials with the aim of discovering new general concepts, clearing the way for both understanding and applications.

Current research projects are focused on Coupling in multiferroic materials, Photovoltaic and Photostrictive Properties of functional oxides, Strain-Engineering in thin films and nano-structured oxides, Phase transitions in oxide and non-oxide materials, Metal-insulator (MI) phase transitions, Instrumentation and metrology of optical spectroscopy and microscopy.
